Drunk Driving Punitive Damage Bill Fails

I wrote last week about a bill pending in the Maryland House of Delegates that would authorize punitive damages against drunk drivers who caused “injury or wrongful death while operating a motor vehicle.” For whatever reason, the House of Delegates Judiciary Committee rejected the bill which means it is not happening in 2012.

I was injured by a drunk driver who was a repeat offender who had a BAC of .23%. Why would law makers protect the guilty from the threat of punitive damages? Send a message to drunk drivers by making this bill a law for the love of Pete. Anyone who voted against this bill is either in bed with the insurance companies or they are a drunk themselves.

leave it to the House of Delegates Judiciary Committee to delay this!
