Listening to the Insurance Adjuster During Settlement Negotiations
I wrote a blog post for the Trial Lawyers Resource Center today on listening to insurance adjusters during settlement negotiations, as well as a few other random thoughts about settling personal injury cases. You can access that post here.

Excellent post! I particularly liked your breakdown of the 3 categories of insurance adjusters; very accurate. One thing any attorney handling personal injury must keep in mind is that "relationship" building with claims on the other side of the phone is a critical step if you are to serve your client's case to the fullest. Claims are essentially the front line insurance representatives who ultimately can make your life and that of your clients a much more pleasant experience or a real burden on cases that should have settled but end up being tried. Egos aside, it ultimately comes down to "does this help or hurt my client's case". Most in our profession and on the other side are professional. There are of course those exceptions who will remain nameless as we all know who they are.

As an insurance adjuster, I could not agree with you more. I deal with too many slash are burn lawyers who talk to me as if I was an idiot and that as a pidly non-lawyer, I could not possibly understand. These clowns may enjoy pounding their chest but I always end up without my full authority from them.
